Edinburgh University v Threave Rovers
The Castle Douglas side’s bus was delayed for over an hour by major road works in the Dumfries area and it was 3.50 before the game kicked off.
Edinburgh took the lead after only 9 minutes when some quality possession on the right hand side set Jack Guthrie free and he slipped the ball under the advancing Nikola Rajovic. However, on 11 minutes Threave went close to equalizing when a looping header from Alistair Barnes required Mark Tait to make a brilliant one-handed save. Threave was forced to replace the injured Jamie Struthers on 24 minutes. Edinburgh went close from a Finn Daniels header from a corner. Ben Irving was a threat up front for the visitors, but he was booked for dissent on 27 minutes. David Maskrey had a firm strike well saved on 34 minutes, but from the ensuing corner kick to the near post area Edinburgh scored their second with a deflection off Kieran Jackson past his keeper Rajovic.

Threave received a major setback on 49 minutes when Ben Irving
made a dangerous high tackle on Duncan Black in the Edinburgh penalty area and was sent off for his second caution. Edinburgh sought to stretch the Threave defence and refreshed their side with the introduction of Peter Mair, James Jackson and Joe Aitken. Threave’s Connor Jamieson, Graeme Blain and Kieran Jackson were booked as was Edinburgh’s Mair. The home side continued to create good chances and on 78 minutes a Harvey McIntosh cross was firmly struck home by Maskrey for Edinburgh’s 3rd goal. A fourth goal followed on 84 minutes as Maskrey released Aitken and he rounded the keeper before driving the ball home.
