Clinical Stirling take all three points at East Peffermill

EUAFC 1-5 Stirling University (SLFL) 8/9/18

After previously facing them in a 4-1 defeat in the Football Nation Qualifying Cup this season, the 1s were up against Stirling University again, this time at East Peffermill in the GeoSonic Lowland League.

The first half was one to forget for the 1st team, as they found themselves 5-0 down at half-time. A mix of poor defending and individual errors were punished by the visitors as they once again showed how clinical they are in front of goal. Goals from MacEwan, Cowley and a Hall hattrick stunned the 1s side, with the pick of the goals coming Cowley who hit the ball first time on the half-volley from a cross and placed the ball into the bottom right hand corner.

Half time: 0-5

With the game firmly in Stirling hands, the 1s had to play for pride in the second half and managed to get a bit more control of the game. James Conington had a great chance early on as he was put through on goal but his effort was saved by the feet of the Stirling goalkeeper. Edinburgh had another opportunity soon after when Max Condie whipped in a freekick from the left into the six yard area which found the head of Anthony Laing, but again the Stirling goalkeeper did well to keep the ball out.

The Uni did manage to find the net from the resulting corner however. Condie again crossed a threatening in-swinging ball into the box, which was missed by the Stirling keeper and found Robbie Sinclair who headed home from six yards.

Uni continued to attack but to no prevail as Stirling’s defence stayed strong to keep the score 5-1.

Full time: 1-5

A very poor 1st half performance proved too costly for the Uni as they look to improve in next Saturday’s fixture in the South Challenge Cup.
