On sunday the 18th May EUAFC faced Whitehill Welfare in the King Cup Final at the Pennypit. Having beaten Edinburgh City and Hibernian FC in the semi and quarter finals respectively, Edinburgh University came out 1-0 winners in the final, maintaining their record of not conceding a goal throughout the whole competition.
A competitive match in which the Uni where on top for long spells until Dan Gerrard broke the deadlock in the 78th minute with a strong header at the back post from a Dan Ward cross. The win caps of great year for the 1st XI, a year in which they reached the BUCS Semi Final and would have won the league if not for a technicality.
Sadly the last game of the season means that we have to say goodbye to some loyal servants of the club. Mark Tait may have played his last game as a student after a six year occupation between the Uni sticks; “In six years for the university, winning this cup is my greatest achievement. We’ve been to a lot of finals and played some fantastic games of football, really important matches, but to win this is the pinnacle.”
The club extends its congratulations to Head Coach Dorian Ogunro and his coaches and thanks them for their tireless efforts in guiding the 1st XI to a very successful season.
Well done again gents, truly a credit to yourselves, the club and the University!
